General Fishing
Information

The river and bluffs in early evening
mist as seen from the lodge. |
All you need to bring for tackle is a 5 or 6 weight rod, a floating line, a few 9 to 12
foot 4x to 6x leaders, and the seasonal flies shown below. We can help with tips on where
to go and what to use. You'll catch primarily rainbow, but you can also catch brown,
brook, and cutthroat. Most trophy sized fish are browns. Anticipate sporadic caddis
hatches in the warm months, midges year-round, and Mayflies in May (surprise!) and June.
Trout fishing is good year-round with the greatest number of fish caught in the spring and
summer. The winter months produce trophy browns. There are four catch and release areas on
the White, and one on the Norfork. Smallmouth and striper fishing is excellent at times,
but are seasonal and temperamental. Call us for the latest information.
Guided
Fishing Trips
For guided fishing trips, its our
pleasure to refer you to three men that we have known and worked with for many years.
Steve Nelson and Ron Yarborough did most of our guided fly fishing trips in the years that
we owned Blue Ribbon Fly Shop. Calm, experienced, and professional, both have contributed
a lot to our reputation.
For those fishing rod
and reel, or combining that with fly fishing, or even bird hunting, a good choice is our
friend Michael Neher, AKA "Crazy Mike" (although you shouldnt take that
"crazy" too seriously).

| Fulton's Boat Dock & Rental Boats |
Our Boat Dock
The old boat dock at the Lodge, bless its ancient heart, has been removed and
replaced with a beautiful new steel dock, which will be much safer and easier to maneuver
around in. There also was some minor dredging done to facilitate navigating boats around
the dock. None of the old shoreline fishing area was affected.

The Rental Boats
The older rental boats (bless their hearts, too) just didnt look right in
the fancy new dock, so they have been replaced with brand new boats and motors. These are
state-of-the-art Supreme 2000 series john boats, equipped with comfortable, moveable
swivel seats, rod trays long enough for fly rods, and lots of dry storage. This is the
boat most commonly used by White River guides. The new motors are Mercury four stroke 9.9
HP outboards. All in all, a first class rental package.

Dale Fulton's Fly
Recommendations (print and bring with you) |
Dale Fulton, well known
for many years as a guide and outfitter in southwestern Montana, is a native of northern
Arkansas. Dale has fished this area since early childhood. In 1978 he began guiding in the
off season on the White and Norfork rivers, and he opened Blue Ribbon Fly Shop in Mountain
Home, Arkansas in 1987. He sold Blue Ribbon Fly Shop in 2007. Now Dale and his wife Ronna
operate Fulton's Lodge together.
Although this list contains flies for
both the White and the Norfork rivers, the rivers are quite different. The Norfork
generally requires smaller flies and lighter tippets, and leans toward nymphs, shrimp, and
sowbugs. The White River is often less demanding and woolly buggers and soft hackles are
popular.

Bass Fly Fishing
The Twin Lakes area of Northern Arkansas is one of the few places you can fish for
trout and bass in the same day. Our tailwater trout rivers flow from two famous black bass
reservoirs, Lake Norfork and Bull Shoals Lake. Lake Norfork is also one of the country's
best striper lakes. Our area offers many native smallmouth bass streams. Crooked Creek and
the Buffalo River are the best known, but we can direct you to others.
